Get to Know Your Tires

Your tires are one of the most important parts of your vehicle for both performance and safety reasons. Because of this, it is important to make sure that you have the appropriate tire for your particular vehicle. Understanding what the markings on your tires actually mean will give you a better perspective when reading tire sizes.

The markings on the sides of your tires that indicate size actually gives you a lot of information about the tire. When we look at P265/75 R 16 for example, the P signifies the tire is for a passenger vehicle and the 265 is the width of the tire. 75 represents the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the width. The R designates the type of tire, in this case, radial, and the 16 is the rim diameter.
